Xosé Oliveira
BiographyHe holds a degree in Galician Bagpipe Speciality and has been related to the traditional music of Galiza since he was a child from the hand of his grandparents Os Morenos de Lavadores. In 1981, he co-founds a bagpipe band known as Os Fungueiros de Sárdoma and he holds his first concerts. He joins Lembranzas Galegas in 1984. Xosé Oliveira won several prizes in various contests and he performs in prestigious festivals as Ortigueira (A Coruña) or Lorient (France). In 1989, he co-founds Noitarega. With the group he recorded 3 albums and performs all over Spain and in France, Italy, Portugal and the United States as well. He collaborated as a studio musician with several artists. Since 2003, he conducts Moxenas Musical Galego, an orchestral group that consists of 40 musicians of southern Galiza.
Telmo Costas
BiographyHe began playing the bagpipe at the age of nine in an extracurricular activity of Matamá public school in Vigo where he studied. After this first stage of contact with bagpipes, he continued learning in Matamá Cultural Society and joined the folk group of the association until 1994 when he began to conduct the musical part of this group. During this year he founded a traditional group called Millaradas with Luís “O Caruncho”, Berto Costas and Miguel Souto. He recorded several pieces in a shared album with O Fiadeiro and Rumbadeira when he was part of Beltaine, a traditional singing group. In 1998, he became part of Noitarega. However, he had already collaborated with this group in a series of concerts in the United States years before. Nowadays, he is member of the organization of Matamáfolc Festival.
Fernando Costas
BiographyHe began his bagpipe training when he was twelve years old, from the hand of the famous bagpiper and composer Nazario Gónzalez “Moxenas”, with whom he continued until 1986. He started to pursue Music Theory at the Conservatory of Music in Vigo at the age of thirteen. Since 1990, he teaches Galician percussion and bagpipe lessons at various institutions in Vigo. He was part of the folk group Lembranzas Galegas for four years and participated in festivals throughout the Spanish and Portuguese geography. He collaborated with several albums like “Henrique Otero, O Gaiteiro do Fragoso”. Fernando has also participated as a judge in various folk contests. He is a member of Noitarega since 1989.
Manuel Alonso
BiographyHe began playing percussion instruments when he was a child, as part of the traditional group Os Xeitosos de Sárdoma. In the early eighties he started working with Juanjo Fernández and recorded with him an album in 2008. Later he took part of Tronada, a traditional quartet of the mid-eighties. He has done several collaborations with various groups and soloists’ albums, such as “Henrique Otero, O Gaiteiro do Fragoso”.
Xosé María Gutiérrez
BiographyHe was part of Lembranzas Galegas from 1979 to 1987, both dancing and playing the bass drum and small percussions. He has collaborated manytimes with the bagpipe band Raigame, several concerts with Nazario González “Moxenas” or Henrique Otero. Xosé María collaborates with the latter in their album “O Gaiteiro do Fragoso”. He co-founds Noitarega in 1989, the group where he plays nowadays.
